Antique Jewelry:
Art Deco Necklaces
Antique jewelry
from the Roaring Twenties is very desirable. There were several
different styles of necklaces popular during this time. Photographs
of flappers from this era will often show several of these worn
all at once!
Sautoirs are
a common style of Art Deco necklaces. They are long necklaces, usually
consisting of a platinum and diamond chain, with a diamond-set drop.
Art Deco jewelry is often convertible; for example, such a necklace
could be taken apart to form a choker and a bracelet.
Large pendants
of platinum and diamonds were a favorite of the Art Deco period,
and of antique jewelry collectors. They are often rectangular in
shape, and feature filigree and milgrain detail. Sometimes they
are backed with a pin, so that they may also be worn as a brooch.
Antique necklaces
from the 1920s are sometimes set with colored gemstones as accents.
Sapphires, rubies and emeralds are seen, as well as jade, coral
and onyx. Long ropes of beads, sometimes with tassels, were also
fashionable during the Art Deco period.
