Antique Jewelry:
Victorian Necklaces
Victorian necklaces
are typically made of yellow gold. Many feature elaborate carving
and engraving, inspired by the jewelry of ancient times. Black enamel
in the taille d'epergne technique is another characteristic of these
antique necklaces.
Antique lockets
are a particular favorite among Victorian jewelry collectors. They
often contain old photographs of the wearer's loved ones, like little
time capsules. Victorian lockets have beautiful engraved designs,
sometimes incorporating the owner's initials.
Cameos were
also worn extensively during the Victorian age. They were worn on
a gold chain, or on a black velvet ribbon high on the neck. Antique
cameos are wonderful jewelry collectibles from this time period.
Victorian slide
chains can also be found on the market today. These long gold chains
have small decorated and jeweled slides that move along them, allowing
one to shorten or lengthen them. Pocket watches are often hung from
the ends of these antique chains.
